Below are pictures of one room, the bibliotheque, once rented to a Notaire. The pictures show typically what is needed in each room. Some were in a worse condition, some better.
Above, the room as viewed before we bought the house, below cleaned then used for storing boxes
Below, the wall paper was striped, several layers of thick paper on delicate plaster then all loose plaster and render was removed, the ceiling had cracks so these were all sanded to produce a trough about 75mm x 4 mm deep so that tape and plaster would repair the cracks. The walls were chased out for wiring for light switches and power sockets. The wire for the centre light was fed over the ceiling from the corridor

The walls were sprayed with PVA to bond the loose render then new render applied and then new plaster. Some areas were lined with plaster board (see picture left) a wall that had a blocked off door to the store room, this door way covered by wallpaper, there is another door to the store room at the other side of rhe chimney breast.
The walls and ceiling were then plastered where required then sanded. The doors for this room had already been painted so that from the lobby and corridor it gave the impression that the room was finished, below is a door frame showing fifty years of dirt and a bit of wood worm, like the rest of the wood in the house these are made of oak and are very sound
Ceiling showing some of the repaired areas and ready to paint. The small door next to the fireplace will have a new door surround made for it
With all the preparation done, it was just a matter of painting wood work, wall and fitting new skirting's where required and new door surround
The glass fronted cabinet and tall book case came from our Yatton home, I made the small book case as I had a bit of spare time
